"A government big enough to give you everything you want is strong enough to take away everything you have."

Now I've heard it all....

Will someone please tell me one accomplishment -- just one -- that Barack Obama has done in nine months in office to merit getting the Nobel Peace Prize? So he gave a speech mentioning nuclear disarmament one time. Big deal. I could do that too. This is a disgrace, and it demonstrates what most of have known ever since Al Gore won this prize -- the Nobel Peace Prize is a joke and a political circus. All you have to do to win this prize is be a famous liberal and give a few good speeches about a fashionable cause like nuclear disarmament or global warming (excuse me, "climate change") and you're an automatic finalist.

If Obama was true leader, he would not accept the award based on the fact that he may also realize that he has done NOTHING to deserve it. But then again, his ego may get in the way...

amen. Obama is a wacko and so is the whole Nobel peace prize organization.

Consider that to many Europeans, the number one perceived threat to world peace is the [existence of the] nation of Israel. The USA used to be the strong ally and protector of Israel. Obama's wink-wink/nudge-nudge politics with the Islamic world -- and particularly with Iran -- have made it pretty clear that we won't stick our necks out for the Jews on Obama's watch.

The Nobel committee isn't going to give an award to the lunatic who eventually "wipes Israel off the map" (God forbid), but they are going to gush praise on every enabler who moves us closer to that point.

I look forward to seeing more articles here!

My first reaction after reading this on Yahoo this morning was to laugh. I am not outraged or anything. After all, it's just a meaningless honor bestowed by a few guys in Norway.

What this award demonstrates to me is the uncritical adoration that many people have for President Obama. His inspiring words alone are enough to earn him the Nobel Peace Prize.

Maybe I should try that with my boss. I am going to promise to work for him for the following year and explain some of the things I will do. Hopefully, he will be so enamored of my plans that he will pay me for a year's work right on the spot. Or maybe he will have the sense to make me do something first.

yeah what exactly did he do to promote peace in his first two weeks in office (the time at which he was nominated for the peace prize)? Nothing, though he has done much since to detract from world peace, i'm just wondering if there's a way to take away one of these? (not that there worth much, maybe next year it will be the president of iran? or Chavez? people who our wonderful president would love to sit down at the table with and considers on a level with himself, maybe he himself would say they are only slightly less deserving of such a prize, since it seems he has no problem with there world views - U.S. being an evil and imperialistic empire, and destruction of the Jews?):)

My favorite quote of the day comes from a friend when she said, "Maybe it should be called Nobel Intentions Prize!"
I'm just reminded of real rewards in heaven! Those are the ones to remember, not the ones given here on earth!

Andrew -- I completely agree with what you wrote about Israel. I read recently that Obama's approval rating in that country has gone down to 4%. 4%! Israel has been a loyal ally to the U.S. in the fight for freedom and against terrorism, and we are abandoning her at a time when her very existence is being threatened by Iran.

Some Dude -- great point. I think you're right that the better reaction to this ridiculous award is to laugh rather than to get angry. I know my initial post reflected anger -- but I probably overreacted.

When I learned that Mr. Obama received this award, I was pretty amazed. And it was not because I was impressed. It just proved to me (once again) what a farce these organizations can be. The world is full of things that don't make sense and people spouting off about great things that I want to do.

If Obama won the prize because of his peaceful worldview and not his accomplishments (of which there are few to speak of), then there are a whole lot of other people who are just as eligible as he.

On another note, this seems like it could be an interesting blog. I read Some Dude's blog on occasion, and that is how I got here. I would prefer that you could comment by just leaving your name and website (mine being http://www.goingthewongway.com). I am not a fan of the choices and it would be lovely if you could change that!

Derek -- thanks for reading and commenting. I decided to change the comment rules on the blog so anyone can comment without having to register. That is the only change I could find that might address your request. I'm not sure I have any other options on my type of blog. But I'm not an expert on blogging, so if you have more feedback on how to improve commenting on this blog please let me know. Thanks!
